Melaka Travel Guide

Flor de la Mar Replica, Maritime Museum

Whenever family or friends coming down to Melaka for a short trip, they will call me asking for places to go and hotel to stay. Staying in Melaka for more than 10 years and recently married to Melaka-born man makes me an official tourist guide to my family and friends. I guess I'm their lifetime tour guide haha.

Anyway, beside Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Melaka is one of the most visited state in Malaysia during weekends and school holiday. Believe me, the local won't get out of their house on weekends because Melaka town will congested and full of tourist on weekends. Hotel to stay

Melaka have hundreds of hotel and motel. I just random pick any hotel cross my mind ok. If you fancy for 5 or 4 star hotel, you can stay at Casa del Rio Hotel, Philea Resort Ayer Keroh, Equatorial Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, Holiday Inn Hotel, Hatten Hotel or Mahkota Hotel. If you want an affordable hotel, you can stay at Seri Costa Hotel, Naza Talyya Hotel, Grand Continental, Seri Malaysia Ayer Keroh, Hang Tuah City Hotel or King Hotel. If you on budget, there's a hell lot of budget hotel in Melaka Raya and Plaza Mahkota like Dreamz Hotel, Fenix Inn, Johan Hotel, Beuford Hotel, Sunflower Hotel, Lotus Inn Hotel, Venus Boutique Hotel, Fairway Hotel, Mahkota Hotel Apartment, De Mawardah Hotel, Dream Hotel, Hangout @ Jonker and many more.

Beside hotel, Melaka also have few number of nice boutique hotels such as The Majestic Melaka, The Stable Melaka, 45 Lekiu, The Sterling Hotel, Courtyard @ Heeren, Jonker Boutique Hotel and The Baba House Boutique Hotel.

Melaka has offer numbers of homestay too. You just google and you will get few lists of Melaka Homestay.

Activities

If you bring your kids to Melaka, there's few places that you might want to bring them.

Town (Bandar Hilir)
Melaka River Cruise, Menara Taming Sari, Duck Tour (Amphibian Boat), Wildlife Theater Melaka, Porta de Santiago (A Famosa), Istana Kesultanan Melaka, Stadhuys / Dutch Square (Red Building), Kincir Air Kesultanan Melayu Melaka, Middleburg Bastion, Flor de la Mar and museums (Melaka have more than 15 museums)

Melaka River Cruise

Muzium Kapal Selam and Pantai Klebang

Ayer Keroh
Zoo Melaka, Melaka Wonderland, Taman Buaya, Planetarium, Taman Rama-rama and Taman Mini Malaysia (still under renovation)

Alor Gajah
A Famosa Water World

Shopping

There's few malls in Bandar Hilir you can go within walking distance- Dataran Pahlawan Megamall, Mahkota Parade & Hatten Square. For department store, we have Aeon Bandaraya & Tesco at Taman Lagenda and Old Jusco & Mydin at Ayer Keroh.

Jonker Street

If you looking for antiques, souvenirs, handicrafts, local snacks, accessories etc, headed to Jonker Street (night market on Friday - Sunday), Medan Samudera, Handicraft Bazar Dataran Pahlawan (at the back of Dataran Pahlawan) and Pahlawan Walk (night market on Friday - Sunday).

Here is my suggestion.

If you want to spend whole day in Bandar Hilir and planning to walk around town, try looking for accommodation at Melaka Raya or Plaza Mahkota. If you manage to score any hotel in Plaza Mahkota, you can just across the road to Menara Taming Sari, A Famosa, Medan Samudera, Flor de la Mar, Dataran Sg. Melaka, Kincir Air Kesultanan Melayu Melaka, Middleburg Bastion, Dutch Square / Stadhuys, Dataran Pahlawan and museums around Porta de Santiago (A Famosa).

Lunch at Selera Kampung Plaza Mahkota, tower up Menara Taming Sari for town aerial view, hop in Duck Tour, buy local snacks at Medan Samudera, cruising the river with Melaka River Cruise at Dataran Sg Melaka, stop by for cendol at Dutch Square, stroll down Jonker Street and drop by at night market Pahlawan Walk before you head back to the hotel.

There you go, Melaka Travel Guide. Hope it help for your next trip to Melaka.

After writing this, I just noticed Melaka good eateries are located at places named start with 'Bukit'. Bukit Katil, Bukit Baru, Bukit Serindit, Bukit Palah, Bukit Cina and Bukit Beruang haha

I try to gather all info yg I tau. Pikir punya pikir dah macam nak buat essay SPM je hahaha. I tau pasal The Stable from Mad Markets jugak, cantik tapi mahal sikit. Actually kat area Jonker Street tu banyak small hotel yg cantik tp kena rajin cari. Pls come back to Melaka, 10tahun tu lama. Jalan 2 way semua dh jadi 1 way hahaha. Bangunan buruk tetiba dah paint mural. I yg duduk Melaka pun kekadang tak perasan bangunan baru kt town.
